烟囱效应，是指户内空气沿着有垂直坡度的空间向上升或下降，造成空气加强对流的现象。烟囱效应的产生。在有共享中庭、竖向通风（排烟）风道、楼梯间等具有类似烟囱特征——即从底部到顶部具有通畅的流通空间的建筑物、构筑物（如水塔）中，空气（包括烟气）靠密度差的作用，沿着通道很快进行扩散或排出建筑物的现象，即为烟囱效应。属于热交换形式的一种表现。
外壳和主体之间近一米的空间创造了所谓的“烟囱效应”（Chimney Effect），即热空气进入外壳后，由于有空间疏导，开始向上移动从而排除楼外。是楼内不受热空气影响。
