烃化剂（alkylating agents）又称烷化剂，是一类化学性质很活泼的化合物。它们具有活泼的烷化基团，能与细胞中DNA或蛋白质中的氨基、颈基、羟基和磷酸基等起作用，常可形成交叉联结或引起脱嘌呤作用，使DNA链断裂，在下一次复制时，又可使核碱酸对错码，造成DNA结构和功能的损害，重者可致细胞死亡。
芥子气非典型的单过效烃化剂(bifunctional alkylating agent),具备狭泛的烃化效用。芥子气份子中的硫本子具备二对于未同用的电子;氯非电负性较弱的本子。
