《点石斋画报》为中国最早的旬刊画报，由上海《申报》附送，每期画页八幅。光绪十年（公元1884年）创刊，光绪二十四年（公元1898年）停刊，共发表了四千余幅作品，反映了19世纪末帝国主义列强的侵略行径和中国人民抵抗外侮的英勇斗争，揭露了清廷的腐败丑恶现象，也有大量时事和社会新闻内容。当时参与创作的画家除吴友如和王钊外，还有金蟾香、张志瀛、周慕桥等17人。这些画家多参用西方透视画法，构图严谨，线条流畅简洁优美。
