潮波是由潮汐引起的，是海水表面发生的一种波动现象，一般以正弦波或余弦波的形式，波长会比较长，带有能量的传递。从全球范围内来考察潮汐现象，一些地方发生涨潮，必在另外一些地方发生落潮；反之，一些地方若是落潮，正好证明另一些地方正在涨潮。这种此起彼落的海水运动，称为潮波。
