海底电缆（submarine cable）是用绝缘材料包裹的电缆，铺设在海底，用于电信传输。海底电缆分海底通信电缆和海底电力电缆。现代的海底电缆都是使用光纤作为材料，传输电话和互联网信号。1850年,人们在加莱（法国）和多弗（英国）之间铺设了世界上第一条海底电缆,1858年8月由塞勒斯-韦斯特-菲尔德创立的一家英国私人公司在爱尔兰（欧洲）与纽芬兰（北美洲）之间完成铺设了第一条洲际海底通信电缆。中国的第一条海底电缆是在1888年完成。
