流行病学模型（Epidemiological Models）是指应用数学语言表述疾病在人群中的表现和分布形式，是现代流行病学对疾病认识的高级阶段。数学模型不同于单纯的观测，它具有逐级抽象的特点。客观实际、现实世界中的抽象只是数学模型的初级抽象。流行病学工作者在流行病学的调查过程中便完成初级抽象，用各种相应的指标来描述疾病在人群中的现象。此阶段称为分析流行病学。
