流态，是水流的各种运动形态。通常将船舶引航中所指的流态是指水流的表层形态。从宏观角度来划分，流态可分为主流和副流。河流中的水体，有部分沿河槽轴线总的方向流动，面流层流线基本平行运动，它决定着河流的主要流向，这部分水流称主流。主流是在重力作用下产生的。河流中除主流外，各种规模较大、范围较广、力量较强的绕竖轴或横轴或斜轴等旋转的流，统称为副流。它可能是因重力作用产生，也可能受其它力（水体内力、外力）作用产生。通常所说的环流、回流等就属于副流。从微观角度可将流态分为层流和紊流两种。
