油泥模型，是传统车身设计中用油泥雕塑的汽车车身模型。早期的汽车车身模型多用石膏和木板为材料，木质模型特点是变形小、不易破损、可长期保存。石膏较便宜，但强度较低，而且不便于反复修改。1955年日本首次使用工业油泥进行汽车模型的设计开发。1972年美国通用汽车公司将油泥应用到汽车设计开发模型上，使汽车设计摆脱了受限于呆板的石膏、木板的历史。我国是在70年代初开始应用这一技术。当今，几乎对所有世界知名汽车公司而言，制作油泥模型是设计过程中非常重要的一个环节。
在此阶段基于董事会管理决策会逐渐减少油泥模型的数量。
