十二世纪初,是豪族江户氏的居馆,因此得名。江户城 长禄元年(1457),太田道灌开始修筑江户城。以后,随着扇谷上杉氏的衰落,此城被小田原城的北条氏夺得。天正十八年(1590),讨伐北条的小田原之战后,德川家康入封关东,以江户为居城,江户城开始繁荣起来。庆长八年(1603),家康在江户开设了历时二百多年的德川幕府。从此,作为全国政治、经济中心,江户城得到很大的发展,最终形成了现在的东京都。 本江户城遗址位于东京都中心千代田区, 被日本政府指定为国家的"特别史迹".
