江南道，是地方监察区名称，辖境长江之南。在唐前期是监察区，非行政区。安史之乱后，随着藩镇割据，道和节度使合二为一，成为行政区。唐贞观元年（627）置，辖境在长江之南，故名，东临海，西抵蜀，南极岭，北带江，领润、常、苏、湖、杭、睦、歙、婺、越、台、括、建、福、宣、饶、抚、虔、洪、吉、袁、郴、江、鄂、岳、潭、衡、永、道、邵、朗、澧、辰、巫、施、思、南、黔、费、夷、溱、播、珍等州，为今浙江、福建、江西、湖南及江苏、安徽、湖北之大江以南、四川东南部、贵州东北部之地，治所在越州大都督。
公元733年江南道被分成江南东、江南西和黔中三道。
