湘绣针法之一。是一种参差不齐，高度灵活变化的一种针法。为湘绣特有的参色主要针法之一。这种针法能将色彩明暗在毫无规律的情况下，调和得十分绚烂、自然、美丽，所表达的色彩艺术效果，并能充分显示刺绣针法的特色，而在某些方面是绘画色彩所无法表达的。其针向无一定准则，不长不短，错综而有条理。湘绣刺绣各种罕见的奇禽异兽，都采用毛针发挥它的特性。
