1964年，国际奥委会决定：由举办夏季奥运会的国家举办残奥会，但可以不在同一城市。1988年，国际奥委会做出新的规定：夏季奥运会和残奥会必须在同一城市举行。随着残疾人体育运动的发展，国际奥委会和国际残疾人奥委会决定联合组织残疾人奥运会。2000年，国际奥委会和国际残疾人奥委会签署协议，规定申办奥运会的城市必须同时申办残奥会；规定残奥会在奥运会后一个月内，在奥运会举办城市的奥运场地举行。国际残疾人奥林匹克运动会每两年举行一届，夏夏季残奥会和冬季残奥会交替举行，截至2000年已举办了11届。
说实话，我很快就被这场坐式排球比赛征服了，我的心跟着场上的比赛起起伏伏，我甚至已经忘记了这是残运会(Paralympics)的一个比赛项目，忘记了在场上比赛(Game)的是一群有着不同程度残疾的运动员。
