槽模通常是由于流水在下伏泥质沉积物层面上冲刷先造成凹坑，然后被上覆砂质沉积物充填和覆盖，经成岩固结以后，在上覆砂岩的底层面上形成向下凸出的小包，实为下伏泥质沉积物的层面上冲坑的印模，故而称之为槽模。槽模一般顺水流方向排列，可疏可密，其圆形突起一端逆(迎) 向水流方向。
