棕红壤是红壤向黄棕壤过渡的土壤类型。成土母质为第四系红色粘土,有效土体厚度40至100厘米不等,质地粘重,为壤粘土至粘土。地表土壤颜色鲜红,剖面中可见大量的铁锰胶膜和网纹层,富铝化作用强烈。 棕红壤具有与红壤形成相似的脱硅富铝化作用,强烈的生物富集作用和一定的粘粒淀积作用。棕红壤也具有相似的形成特点。受自然环境条件的影响,棕红壤的脱硅富铝化作用和生物富集作用比红壤弱,较黄棕壤强。 棕红壤适宜种植茶叶、油桐、油茶、果树、油菜、麦类、甘薯、牧草、湿地松、马尾松、杉木等。
