根插（root cutting）是以根段作为插根的扦插方法。将粗0．3～1．5厘米的根，剪成5～15厘米长作插根，上口平剪，下口斜剪，直插于土中，扦插后发生不定根和芽。根的抗干、抗冻能力弱，插后床面浇水并覆盖保湿；寒地冬季根段宜沙藏，待次春解冻后扦插，根插的成活率较高。枝插成活困难而根插较易成活的树种如枣、柿、核桃、长山核桃、山核桃、漆树等常用此法。
