条件作用是指通过训练使人或动物学会将刺激与反应形成联系的过程。分经典条件作用与操作条件作用两种基本形式。共同点是：可以训练机体习得适当的反应；已习得的反应可以消退；要运用强化等。区别是：在程序上，采用经典条件作用进行训练时，强化（无条件刺激的呈现）跟随在条件刺激之后，采用操作条件作用进行训练时，强化跟随在学习者的反应之后。
