本构方程(constitutive equation)，反映物质宏观性质的数学模型。又称本构关系(constitutive relations)。通常把应力和应变率，或应力张量与应变张量之间的函数关系称为本构方程。 又称流变方程。描述特定连续介质运动学量、动力学量、热力学状态之间相互关系的方程。是以应力、应变和时间关系来描述物料的流变性质。它反映了特定物质的固有属性，随所研究的具体介质和运动条件而变。
生物材料是生命的基本组成部分,研究其力学性能就要给出生物材料的本构方程(constitutive equation),即表示出应力和应变的关系,或者应力和应变率的关系。
