成熟的红细胞是无细胞核的，成分是蛋白质和铁，有运输氧的功能。但是人体内细胞生长不可能没有细胞核，所以有核红细胞实际上是未成熟的红细胞。有核红细胞所占比例很少。正常成人外周血中不能见到，在出生1周之内的新生儿外周血中可见到少量。
