曲牌是传统填词制谱用的曲调调名的统称。俗称“牌子”。古代词曲创作，原是“选词配乐”，後来逐渐将其中动听的曲调筛选保留，依照原词及曲调的格律填制新词，这些被保留的曲调仍多沿用原曲名称。明代以前所形成的戏曲声腔，如昆山腔﹑弋阳腔，以及由明清俗曲发展成的戏曲剧种，大多以曲牌为唱腔的组成单位，通称作“曲牌体”唱腔。
