断裂韧性是试样或构件中有裂纹或类裂纹缺陷情形下发生以其为起点的不再随着载荷增加而快速断裂，即发生所谓不稳定断裂时，材料显示的阻抗值。这样的断裂韧性值，可用能量释放率g、应力强度因子K、裂纹尖端张开位移CTOD和J积分等描述裂纹尖端的力学状态的单一参量表示。
