叙述法（Essay Method,Essay method）是指评估者以一篇简洁的记叙文的形式来描述员工绩效的方法，包括描述工作行为或能力，还可以包括培训和提升计划、问题诊断的结果以及绩效问题的解决。这种方法集中描述员工在工作中的突出行为，而不是日常每天的业绩。在最终敲定叙述性绩效评估之前，最好是留出点时间来考虑叙述的内容，然后再签名。在初步的叙述草稿写好之后，和员工都应该花几天时间考虑一下，再完成最终定稿前提出一些修改意见。
