放射性物品是指含有放射性核素，并且其活度和比活度均高于国家规定的豁免值的物品。放射性物品能不断地、自发地放出肉眼看不见的x、α、β、γ射线和中子流等。这些物品含有一定量的天然或人工的放射性元素。放射性物品所具备的放射能被广泛地应用于工业、农业、医疗卫生等诸方面，具有重要的价值。但是，人和动物如果受到这些射线的过量照射，会引发放射性疾病，严重的甚至死亡。感光材料，某些化学物品等受到这些射线的影响，会发生变质。
对于爆炸品和放射性物品等危险货物还有特殊的要求。
