在器物上，装饰有一片一片的金，称“片金”。面积比麸金更大。《髹饰录》有比名称。按1970年新疆乌鲁木齐南部盐湖南岸天山古墓出土的元代片金锦和捻金锦为例，“片金”似以金箔粘附在宽仅0．5毫米的皮子上，作纬线以织；“捻金”是以丝线为胎，外加金箔而成的金缕丝线，作纬线以织。将金箔和皮子加工得如此细薄，可见元代织锦工艺水平当是很高的。另外，不论是“片金”锦还是“捻金”锦，均是以丝线、棉线、金线等混合织造。
其上巧工织的带子，要和以弗得一样的做法，用以束上，与以弗得接连一块，要用金线和蓝色、紫色、朱红色线，并捻的细麻做成。
