捻距是指在捻股或合绳时，钢丝围绕股芯或绳股围绕绳芯旋转一周（360°）的起止点间的直线距离。在捻制过程中，钢丝或绳股由捻制设备的机身带动作匀速圆周转动，在捻合的同时又被牵引轮带动作匀速直线运动，即成为绳股（简称股）或钢丝绳，钢丝在股中和股在钢丝绳中呈现圆柱螺旋线状态。
