挂失止付，是指在票据丧失时，失票人将丧失票据的情况通知付款人，并请求付款人停止付款，接受挂失止付的在票据项未被他人取得的情况下，决定暂停支付的一种失票补救措施。挂失止付制度是依据《票据法》的规定，对可以挂失止付的票据在票据丧失后，失票人及时通知票据的付款人，收到通知的付款人在法定期间内暂停对该票据支付的制度。该制度是票据的权利人在票据丧失后获得的一种救济措施，防止因票据的丧失给权利人造成损失。对保护票据权利人的权利具有重要意义。是我国金融法律制度中的一项重要制度。
