拜物教（fetishism）宗教信仰的原始形式之一。与“拜神教”相对。该词来自葡萄牙文feitico，意谓巫术。1760 年由法国历史学家德布罗斯（Charles deBrosses， 1709 一 1777）首先使用。宗教意义上的拜物教产生于原始神灵观念之前。被崇拜者，广义为天体、宏大的自然现象、无生命的东西和动植物，狭义为人的想像中的“可感觉而又超感觉的物或社会的物”（《马克思恩格斯全集》第 23卷第89页）。它们被赋予超自然的特性，使人产生敬畏与恐惧感二拜物教在尚未完全摆脱原始状态的居民群落中，仍然存在，在现代宗教中也留有某些残余。非宗教意义上的拜物教，是喻指对某种物品的迷信或盲目崇拜，如在生产资料私有制为基础的商品经济中出现的商品拜物教和货币拜物教现象。
