扭矩是使物体发生转动的一种特殊的力矩。发动机的扭矩就是指发动机从曲轴端输出的力矩。在功率固定的条件下它与发动机转速成反比关系，转速越快扭矩越小，反之越大，它反映了汽车在一定范围内的负载能力。 外部的扭矩叫转矩或者叫外力偶矩，内部的叫内力偶矩或者叫扭矩。
