慧星，俗称扫把星，是由冰构成的太阳系小天体（SSSB），当它与太阳足够接近时，便会展示出慧发（稀薄、模糊的临时性大气层），有时也会有慧尾。这些现象是由太阳辐射和太阳风共同对慧核作用造成的。慧核是由松散的冰、尘埃、和小的岩石颗粒组成，直径的范围从数百米到数十公里不等。 古代也有慧星出现的记录，古人一般认为慧星是凶兆。
