延迟裂纹是冷裂纹的一种，是由于塑性储备、应力状态以及焊缝金属中氢含量等综合作用而产生的焊接裂纹。具有孕育期的冷裂纹称为延迟裂纹。这类裂纹具有潜伏期、缓慢扩展期和突然断裂期三个阶段。一般认为：潜伏期和缓慢扩展期与氢的聚集与扩散有关，所以又称氢致裂纹。这类裂纹可能在焊后数小时、数天或更长时间内出现。高强钢厚壁容器容易出现这种裂纹。
