广告新闻是以新闻形式宣传广告的内容。它与广告的差异仅仅在于文体形式的不同而已，从其内容，目的来看，和广告没有什么区别，仍属于广告，是不能纳入新闻之列的。也正因为如此，广告新闻与新闻容易鱼目混珠。广告客户将广告诉求的内容转换、纳入新闻消息或通讯、特写一类的新闻形式之中，在有意让受众误认为其为“新闻”或无法准确判定其为“新闻”抑或广告的情况下，在媒体上发布，以求获得以“广告”形式发布所不能获得的诉求效果。
