岩石变形(deformation of rock)岩石在外力或其他物理因素(如温度、湿度)作用下发生形状或体积的变化。不仅小的岩块,就是整个地壳岩体在力的作用下也会不断变形,地壳目前的蠕变速率一般为10-16/秒,西藏高原和喜马拉雅山以每年几厘米的速率上升。地壳变形急剧的地方会产生断层、褶皱等。工程岩体往往因为变形过大,导致失稳。因此岩石变形特性是岩石力学研究的重要内容之一。研究的重点是岩石的应力-应变-时间关系。中国学者在岩石变形,尤其是岩石流变研究方面起步较早,占有重要地位。
