嫦娥一号是我国首颗绕月人造卫星。以中国古代神话人物嫦娥命名，由中国空间技术研究院承担研制。总重量为2350千克左右，尺寸为2000毫米×1720毫米×2200毫米，帆板展开长度18米，预设寿命为1年。 该卫星的主要探测目标是：获取月球表面的三维立体影像；分析月球表面有用元素的含量和物质类型的分布特点；探测月壤厚度和地球至月球的空间环境。 2007年10月24日18时05分(UTC+8时)左右，嫦娥一号卫星在西昌卫星发射中心升空。2009年3月1日完成使命，撞向月球预定地点。
