太空战是指利用天基武器系统，以争夺制天权为目的的作战行动，是以地球的外层空间为战场所进行的攻与防的作战。它既包括作战双方天基武器系统之间的格斗，也包括天基武器系统对地面和空中目标的打击以及从地面对天基系统发动的攻击。其目的就是剥夺对方对太空的使用权。
