“大地基准”（Geodetic Datum）指的就是大地测量时作为计算依据的“事物”，其可为“实际”的真实物理面，如大地体或大地水准面，亦可为“假设”的数学体面，如旋转椭球体或参考椭球体。简单地说，大地基准乃是一种作为测量计算的参考依据。 大地基准用作大地坐标系的基本参考依据和大地坐标计算的起算数据。包括参考椭球参数和定位参数以及大地坐标的起算数据。
