外层空间（outerspace），空气空间以外的整个空间。国际法承认一国对其领土上面一定高度的空间为其领空，国家对其拥有完全的、排他的主权。因此，一国的领空一般也指其领陆及领水（一国领土包括：领陆、领水和领空）上面的空气空间，在领空以外的是外层空间。由于自然科学的发展，外层空间法已经成为国际法的一个组成部分。
