11世纪塞尔柱突厥人在中亚、西亚建立的伊斯兰帝国(1037～1194)。亦称塞尔柱王朝。塞尔柱人属突厥乌古斯部落联盟（乌古斯叶护国）4大部族的一支，初居中亚北部的大草原地区，以其酋长塞尔柱克(Saljuq)的名字命名。约于10世纪中期，塞尔柱克因为与叶护发生不可调和的矛盾，率其部众离开养吉干，西迁至锡尔河下游的毡的地区，成为南方伽色尼王朝的雇佣军与羁縻臣属。后趁伽色尼王朝对外战争和内讧之机，扩大势力，逐渐兴起，极盛时期疆域囊括地中海东岸到中国新疆西部之间的大部分土地。
