垂直传播(vertical transmission)，也称母婴传播或围生期传播。指在围生期病原体通过胎盘、产道或哺乳由亲代传播给传给子代的方式。垂直传播病原体以病毒多见，是病毒感染的特点之一，很多病毒都可通过垂直方式由母体传染给胎(婴)儿，如风疹病毒、巨细胞病毒、乙型肝炎病毒、HIV等10余种病毒可通过胎盘感染胎儿，引起死胎、流产、早产或先天畸形。存在于妇女产道的病毒，在分娩时可能引起新生儿感染。垂直传播较难控制，应注意孕期及围生期保健预防。
