土壤含水量一般是指土壤绝对含水量，即100g烘干土中含有若干克水分，也称土壤含水率。测定土壤含水量可掌握作物对水的需要情况，对农业生产有很重要的指导意义，其主要方法有称重法，张力计法，电阻法，中子法，r-射线法，驻波比法，时域反射法、高频振荡法（FDR）及光学法等。土壤中水分含量称之为土壤含水率，是由土壤三相体（固相骨架、水或水溶液、空气）中水分所占的相对比例表示的，通常采用重量含水率（θg）和体积含水率（θv）两种表示方法。
