现存脊椎动物中最古老的一类动物，生活在海水或淡水里。 因为这类动物没有上下颌，又叫无颌类。身体分头、躯干、尾等3部分。头、躯干圆形，尾部侧扁。它的神经系统、骨骼、循环系统、消化系统都较原始，对环境适应能力较差，有一些种类靠寄生在鱼类体内生活。 现存圆口纲类动物种数不多，仅50种左右。产于中国东北的七鳃鳗就是圆口类动物。
