《唐代传奇》是唐代文言短篇小说，内容多传述奇闻异事，后人称为唐人传奇，或称唐传奇。唐传奇在经过发轫期的准备，兴盛期之后，终于在晚唐时期开始衰落。 唐代传奇内容除部分记述神灵鬼怪外，大量记载人间的各种世态，人物有上层的，也有下层的，反映面较过去远为广阔，生活气息也较为浓厚。
本文试图运用比较文学形象学的理论观照唐代传奇中的西域胡人形象，并进而考察唐人在中西文化交流的大背景下对异域文化的理解和想象。
