周围神经是颅神经、脊神经、神经丛、神经索、神经干和末梢神经损害的总称。可分为神经痛和神经病两大类。神经痛时只在感觉神经分布区发生剧痛，神经主质并无明显改变，其传导功能也正常。由感染、中毒、外伤，或代谢障碍等病因所引起的周围神经变性为神经病，通称神经炎。按照周围神经病变发生的部位分别称为颅神经炎、神经根炎、神经节炎、神经丛炎、神经干炎和末梢神经炎等。
