向斜盆地是指沿着向斜轴部发源的盆地，向斜是褶皱构造中岩景向下凹曲的部分，经侵蚀后，核部出露岩层较新，两翼岩层较老，且对称分布。向斜形成之初是地形上的低地，即向斜谷地或向斜盆地。
