同步工程(SE，Synchronization Engineering or Simultaneous Engineering)，又称并行工程。定义如下：“对整个产品开发过程产品的各个子系统同步开发，产品与工艺、工装的开发，产品与质量目标同步规划，使开发者从概念开始就考虑其他子系统的接口和需求，考虑后续工艺和工装的水平和能力，考虑质量目标的实现要求，即开发时就考虑到整个产品生命周期内的所有因素（包括质量、成本、进度和用户要求）的一种系统方法。
三足打破了连续性(Continuous)的作业方式，代之而来的是同步工程 (Concurrent Engineering),即将多道工序在互动的情况下同时进行，各工序之间 随时可以交流，从而能大幅度提高流程效率，缩短运行周转时间。
