发展方程（Evolution Equation），又称演化方程或者进化方程。广义的说，是包含时间变量t的许多重要的物理偏微分方程的统称。在物理、力学或其他自然科学中用来描述随时间变化的状态或过程。狭义的说，它是指可以用半群方法化为一个Banach空间中的抽象常微分方程的Cauchy问题来处理的那些数学物理方程、波动方程、热传导方程、Schrodinger方程、流体动力学方程组、KdV方程、反应扩散方程等等以及这些方程通过适当的方式耦合起来的耦合方程组，都属于发展方程的范畴。
