原发性纵隔肿瘤(primArytumorofmediAstinum)是指纵隔内器官结构因胚胎发育过程中发生异常或后天原因而形成的肿物。纵隔内组织器官较多，其胎生结构来源复杂，故纵隔内可发生各种类型的肿物，可有良性与恶性及囊性与实性之分。原发性纵隔肿瘤约70-80%属于良性，恶性占20%左右。虽然其种类繁多，但许多常见的肿瘤均有其好发部位，都有一定的组织来源。原发性纵隔肿瘤中后纵隔的神经源性肿瘤最多，其次为前纵隔的畸胎瘤、胸腺肿物及胸骨后甲状腺肿瘤。但在婴儿和儿童，胎原性囊种居第2位
