卫生防疫站是食品卫生及预防疾病的机构。我国从建国以来一直坚持卫生防疫事业的建设，取得了很大的成绩，尤其是对各种传染病的控制和监测，并逐渐消灭了各种传染病的发展和流行。为了与国际接轨，同时中国实行疾病控制与卫生监督体制改革，由于职能的变化，各级卫生防疫站在2002年开始，陆续分离出卫生监督所（局）后， 改称为 疾病预防控制中心 （CDC）。至2004年，基本更名完成。卫生防疫站除在少数行业系统仍保留名称外，基本已不再使用。
