单胞又称晶胞。在晶体学中，原胞虽然已经选择尽可能对称，但并不反映整个格子的立方对称性。为了反映晶格的对称性，选取较大的周期单元，选取的这个单元就是单胞。在有些情况下，单胞就是原胞,在另一些情况下不是原胞（大于原胞），当结构存在底心，面心，体心时不为原胞。
