正拍切球在早期的比赛，较为广泛流行，此种打法是由上往下加以侧旋 (Sidespin) 切出，使球产生下旋 (Underspin) ，由于向下旋转之球，在空气中产生飘浮而低飞过网，球速较慢，让对手有充欲的时间还击，因此近年来讲求快速的攻击打法，切球因而较少被使用，然比赛中偶尔会因救球或改变战术，甚而吊短球，而被采用。
