出口贴现指银行保留追索权地买入已经银行承兑、未到期的远期票据，为出口商提供短期资金融通的业务。在承兑信用证项下，远期汇票被银行承兑后，出口商如遇临时资金周转困难而需要短期资金融通时可选择出口贴现。出口贴现业务是目前商业银行最愿意提供的贸易融资业务，其手续也最简便。
另一方面，如果出口商不想等到承兑汇票到期后才收到货款的话，他可以将这张汇票在贴现公司贴现，也就是把它卖给贴现公司。
