清康熙二年(1663)置临洮道，驻兰州府（兰州市），领临洮府、兰州府； 八年(1669)移驻临洮府（治今甘肃临洮县，二十四年(1685) 移驻兰州。乾隆二十八年(1763)更名甘肃驿传道兼兰州；四十四年(1779)更名兰州道。1912年废。
